The Xiaomi Redmi Airdots are among the best-selling true wireless earbuds worldwide . It is therefore no surprise that they have received a successor in the form of the Airdots 2.From a purely visual point of view, the Redmi Airdots 1 and 2 + – are identical. A bit boring but not bad per se, as the design is quite suitable for everyday use.
Design
The Airdots 2 charging box with 62 x 39 x 27 mm is very pocket-friendly. The weight is also very comfortable at 34g (including earphones ). The charging box is of course made of a very simple plastic, which is a bit sensitive to scratches. In addition, the material quality can be described as thin, which is not surprising in the price range in which we move.
Functionally, however, I cannot complain! It’s just a shame that Xiaomi continues to use microUSB instead of USB C for charging. The built-in battery can charge the Airdots 2 approx. 2x on the go. The earbuds last 3-4 hours on each charge , which is okay, if not generous.
The earphones themselves are extremely compact and lightweight! These are only half the size of most of the competition. But they look well built! As is so often the case, the Airdots 2 are controlled via a small touch surface on the back.
Comfort
The Airdots 2 are very small true wireless earbuds! Strictly speaking, these are actually the smallest that I currently know. Accordingly, the wearing comfort is good to very good! The earphones don’t bother the ears at all, especially since the shape of these is also successful.
There is also no need for something like silicone ear hooks, as the earphones are so light and small that they usually hold very well.In short, I find the Xiaomi Redmi Airdots 2 very comfortable!
Sound
We come to the most exciting point, how do the Xiaomi Redmi Airdots 2 sound? Generally speaking, these sound very similar to the Redmi Airdots 1, there are only a few changes in the details.
As usual, let’s start at the heights . The heights of the Redmi Airdots 2 are good! These are clear, clean and “direct”. However, these do not appear artificially over-sharpened or too flashy. I would describe the highs as consistent. For this price range, the heights even offer good details.
The mids, on the other hand, are rather mediocre. The Xiaomi Redmi Airdots 2 are bass bombers, more on that later, which often results in a certain overshadowing of the mids. The mids are not bad per se, but they are often drowned out a bit and appear comparatively “clean”. There is a little lack of detail here. Voices are largely reproduced well.
The bass is without question the highlight of the Redmi Airdots 2. The Redmi Airdots 1 already had a lot of bass, but Xiaomi has gone one better with the Airdots 2. The bass is clearly the primary sound element! However, this is also largely impeccable in terms of quality, even if we compare it with much more expensive earphones. The depth of the Airdots 2 is excellent and the sound volume is good. Here and there the bass could be a tad rounder, but that’s grumbling on a very high level.
The Xiaomi Redmi Airdots 2 clearly rely on the bathtub sound signature, i.e. lots of bass and lots of highs. As a result, the earphones appear very dynamic, lively and lively, especially in electrical titles, as well as in many pop titles. However, due to the somewhat “hit it” nature of the earphones, they are less suitable for purists. The Redmi Airdots 2 want to convince you with powerful arguments and by that I primarily mean the bass.
This can absolutely succeed! The earphones and the sound are a lot of fun for me and generally they sound well above their actual price range. Especially since I couldn’t hear any compression or anything like that. Yes, the earphones sometimes seem a bit clean, but this is probably intentional and is not due to sound compression. There are further bonus points for the high maximum volume.
Conclusion
What should I say big about the Redmi Airdots 2 ? I am not only referring to the very bass-heavy sound, even if this is certainly not entirely unimportant.
In other words, the Airdots 2 are not for purists! The earphones have a very strong but good bass! In addition, there are good highs for a very dynamic and lively sound.
In addition, it is very suitable for everyday use! I find the Airdots 2 to be very comfortable to wear. The earphones are nice and compact and fit almost perfectly! The connection stability, etc. is also impeccable.
In short, the Airdots 2 are the almost perfect “everyday earphones “, where it wouldn’t be that bad if they were lost. Even if you would definitely miss the Airdots 2 then.
